Umbrella payroll, self-assessment & contractor support

Terms & Conditions

The terms on which TJL Contractors provides umbrella payroll, self-assessment and related services.

Last updated: 2026

1. About these terms

These terms govern your use of this website and, where they apply, the services we provide. By using this website you accept them. Where we provide services to you, the specific terms of that engagement โ€” including fees and notice periods โ€” will be confirmed to you in writing before you begin, and those terms take precedence over anything on this page.

2. Our services

We provide umbrella payroll services as an employer, online self-assessment filing, and administrative support for contractors operating through their own limited company. The scope of what we will do for you is set out in your written engagement terms.

We are not authorised to provide regulated financial advice. Where we discuss options such as umbrella versus limited company, we are describing how the arrangements work rather than recommending an investment or a financial product. For advice on your specific circumstances you should consult a suitably qualified professional.

3. Your responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and complete information, including timesheets, income details and expense records
  • Tell us promptly if anything you have given us changes or turns out to be wrong
  • Keep your own records to the extent the law requires, and retain them for the relevant period
  • Ensure you have the right to work in the UK and any qualifications required by your end client

4. Fees and payment

Our fees are confirmed to you in writing before you engage us. For umbrella payroll, our fee is deducted from the assignment value before employer costs and payroll are calculated. Self-assessment is charged at the flat fee shown on our fees page. Where a fee changes, we will tell you before the change takes effect.

5. Payments to you

We pay you once your approved timesheet has been received and funds have cleared from your agency or end client. We are not responsible for delays caused by an agency or client paying late, though chasing those payments on your behalf is part of the service we provide.

6. Compliance

We operate compliant PAYE payroll. We do not operate loan schemes, offshore arrangements, or any structure designed to reduce tax by treating employment income as something else. If you ask us to use such an arrangement we will decline, and if we become aware of one being used in connection with your engagement we may terminate our services.

7. Ending our engagement

Either party may end the engagement in accordance with the notice terms set out in your written engagement. Anything you owe us remains payable, and we will account to you properly for any pay already earned. See our fees page for what applies to you.

8. Liability

We take reasonable care in providing our services, but we do not accept liability for losses arising from information you have given us that is inaccurate or incomplete, from delays caused by third parties such as agencies or HMRC, or for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

9. Intellectual property

The content, design and code of this website belong to us or are used with permission. You may view and print pages for your own reference. You may not reproduce or republish substantial parts of it without our written consent.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
